Mr Rao convened a meeting with senior officials of GHMC to discuss the measures to clean up the city

Hyderabad: Determined to enhance the image of Hyderabad, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is planning to launch the ‘Clean Hyderabad’ programme. The idea is to rid Hyderabad of garbage dumped along the streets. On Thursday, Mr Rao convened a meeting with senior officials of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation at the Secretariat to discuss the measures to clean up the capital city.

He asked officials to procure 1,000 acres of land in and around the city for setting up of 10 to 15 garbage dumping yards. “We must explore prospects of using garbage for power generation, which could be used for street-lighting and other community needs,” said the Telangana Chief Minister. He added that the involvement of the people and civil society groups must be encouraged to achieve the goal. The CM also cautioned the officials against Gandipet and Himayathsagar going the Hussainsagar way in terms of pollution.
