Government staff seek split over retirement
Hyderabad: Extension of retirement age by two years in Andhra Pradesh has prompted the heads-of- departments and employees to change their tune. They are now demanding division of institutes, like the Andhra Pradesh Forensic Science Laboratory and APPA, which are listed in Schedule 10 of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisaion Act.
Departments like the Andhra Pradesh Police Academy and APFSL are now demanding division of assets and staff and their removal from the Schedule 10.
APFSL director A. Sharada has written to the Chief Ministers of both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, seeking bifurcation of employees and movable assets.
APPA and APFSL are now serving both the states. Interestingly, the top brass and several employees earlier wanted these institutes to remain united. However, the situation has changed after the retirement age was increased by the Andhra Pradesh government.
In her letter, Ms Sharada said, “It is learnt that the bifurcation was initiated in the police department, including APPA and Greyhounds, which are under Schedule 10. All the AFSL employees are now showing their willingness for bifurcation. It helps the employees identify the channels for promotions and transfers. Bifurcation will not affect the functioning of the APFSL.”
Several other educational institutes, which are in the common list of Schedule 10 of the Act, are also seeking bifurcation.
An official said, “The top officials who opposed bifurcation will get an extension with the increase in retirement age and that is why they have changed their tune now. However, no guidelines have been issued and there is utter confusion.”
