Karan Johar doesn't charge 'acting fee' for 'Bombay Velvet'

The director will be seen playing a negative role in the film

Mumbai: Karan Johar is making his acting debut on big screen with a negative character in Anurag Kashyap’s magnum opus ‘Bombay Velvet’. For that, he has been very gracious to the makers by not accepting a single penny as an actor’s fee for the role. Though in the past, he has made cameo in films, but this one is a first full fledged role.

As a token of appreciation Phantom Films (Anurag Kashyap and Vikas Bahl) has sent a giant cheque of Rs.11 as a symbol of friendship between them and Karan.

A source close to the development reveals that while the makers pressed for him to be paid a fee, Karan refused to accept even a penny.

Vikas Bahl, one of the producers of the film, says, "Yes, he has not taken any remuneration, because this film is his 'passion project'. I think the full team will always be indebted to him."

He adds, "We are thankful to Karan for agreeing to do the film. He is absolutely fantastic in his role and we don't have words to describe how proud we are that he chose to debut as an actor with this film."

Bombay Velvet, a romantic thriller, stars Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in lead roles, set to release on November 28. ‘Bombay Velvet’ is produced by Fox Star Studios and Phantoms Films.
