N Chandrababu Naidu to seek 12,000 crore for rail projects
Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will seek Rs 12,000 crore worth railway projects for the state, in addition to urging the Centre to speed up establishment of a new railway zone for AP, when he meets prime Minister Narender Modi, railway and other ministers during his stay in Delhi on June 26 and June 27.
This Rs 12,000 crore pertains to only railway projects in AP, as Mr Naidu will be seeking special financial package, policies, special status for 15 years and other form of assistance from the Centre to develop AP, post bifurcation.
“Chandrababu Naidu wants to develop Andhra and Rayalaseema in a big way by improving the rail connectivity. Dedicated freight corridors and heavy axil dedicated road corridors are being planned,” AP social welfare minister R. Kishore Babu told the media here on Wednesday.
He said the state government has big plans to make Andhra Pradesh into a major logistics hub, set up trans-shipment ports, promote containerisation and provide the all important link between the ports and hinterland. The minister said the AP government was working on implementing an integrated transport system by having inter-connectivity between rail, road, air and water ways.
