Civic body asked to act during construction
Hyderabad: The big question is: Who encourages the illegal structures? While the GHMC asks the water and electricity boards to stop providing connections to these illegal buildings, both the boards hold the GHMC responsible for ignoring the structures when they are being constructed.
As per the common building rules laid down by the GHMC, water connections as well as electricity lines should not be given to buildings that do not have occupancy certificates. A senior Water Board official said, “The Board denies water supply to many unauthorised constructions and even cuts off illegal connections without waiting for a signal from the GHMC. However, as per rules, on collection of three times the regular fee, connections can be provided to such structures.
“The GHMC, instead of waiting till the building is complete, should tackle the violators at the construction level. If that is done, then there will be no question of water or electric supply to the buildings, said some officials of Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana.
