Beas tragedy: Himachal High Court told college to pay Rs 2.5 lakh ex gratia
Hyderabad: The Himachal Pradesh High Court on Wednesday ordered the city’s VNR Vignan Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology to pay half of the Rs 5 lakh compensation to the families of the students who had died in the Beas river mishap. The other half will be paid by the dam authorities who had released the water.

The families of the 24 students and that of the tour operator will have to be paid Rs 5 lakh each. A HP HC division bench comprising Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan ordered the compensation. The court also said that the investigation into the case would continue.
