Audits to spot state land in Telangana

TRS govt is firm on taking back encroached land and protecting government lands

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has been taking up “land auditing” in all the 10 districts on a war footing to identify the availability of government lands as well as encroached and disputed lands.

A team of 15 surveyors is being sent to each district. The team will tour extensively for 10 days. Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Medak are top priorities as per the directions given by Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, as the land rates here are the highest. The TRS government is firm on taking back encroached land and protecting government lands from land sharks.

Mr Rao directed officials of the revenue department to submit district-wise reports on land auditing by the first week of July so that the government could initiate steps to protect the existing government lands from being encroached, besides initiating action against land sharks who have taken possession of government land illegally.

The CM told officials that if the government succeeded in identifying government lands and encroached lands in these three districts, it would be helpful in utilising the same for the benefit of the state by allotting it to new industries and firms.

While the TRS government has grand plans to invite big national and international firms to Telangana by holding the Partnership Summit by January 2015, it has been facing a major challenge in the form of lack of adequate land in Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Medak districts, where majority of investors want to set up base.

Several government lands are under the possession of encroachers and are “disputed”. The government wants to know the exact amount of land in its possession, besides details about encroached lands and disputed lands. The government wants to fight legal cases to get back the encroached lands.
