Tube Talk: Sharing screen space with Amitabh Bachchan

'The shooting is like a film and we wrap up at a fixed time' says Aahana Kumra

Mumbai: Theatre and film actor Aahana Kumra has bagged her big break with the opportunity to play Amitabh Bachchan’s daughter in the upcoming show Yudh.

The actress admits that she couldn’t believe her luck. She says, “I was at casting director Mukhesh Chhabra’s office to audition for Bombay Velvet, when he told me that I would be playing Amitabh Bachchan’s daughter. I didn’t know if he was serious or was pulling a gag on me. I got the role instantly, Anurag Kashyap had already seen my work and the tape was sent to production house Endamol who liked it too.”

The first time Aahana shared screen space with Big B, it was a fan girl moment. She recalls, “I was numb, though I wasn’t nervous. I think he knows what the other person is going through while looking at them so he had a chat with me to break the ice. He told me how I should enact the scene and how I can fine-tune my performance. It was pure magic.”

Aahana says that she is confident of her performance thanks to her acting gurus, Naseeruddin Shah and Makrand Deshpandey, under whom she has trained. Coming from a non-filmy background, the actress reveals that she fulfilled her father’s dream. She says, “My father wanted to be an actor but his father did not allow him to do so. He ended up working in a pharmaceutical company and my mother is a CBI officer. My mom always knew I wanted to be an actor but my dad was apprehensive. I ultimately convinced him.”

Though Aahana is doing a TV show she tells us that the best part is, it isn’t shot like one. She says, “The shooting is like a film and we wrap up at a fixed time. We have been shooting since last year so we have a big bank of episodes. I am aware of the hectic schedules of other TV shows but I’m open to the challenge. Naseer saab told me the medium dosen’t matter, just do your work right.”
