Twitter diplomacy? Open accounts on social media, Modi to ministries
Mumbai: Now social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter will be flooded with accounts of government officials. Not that it will be first of its kind, we have seen Prime Minister Narendra Modi having his fair share of social media updates and Home Minister Rajnath Singh a new entrant on Twitter.
The ministries of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government have been asked to open accounts on social networking websites.

Ministers will now keep a track of ministries websites online and will be guided by Modi himself, as per sources. He has told the ministries to entrust joint secretary level officers with the job of updating the Facebook and Twitter accounts atleast in every 15 days.
Modi has always been a follower of social media ever since he was Gujarat’s CM but when he joined Prime Minister’s Office, a lot of major government decisions were shared online.

Earlier, Modi had asked the ministries to use Hindi on social networking platforms that led to nation wide debates and criticism for his government. After the furore, the government clarified that the order was only for Hindi-speaking states. Employees who do their official work in Hindi will also be awarded Rs. 2,000 as announced by a circular.
