Tata firm aims to build aircraft in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: The Tata group arm on Monday set its eyes on bringing out a fully-built Dornier 228 new generation aircraft for Switzerland-based Ruag Aviation. Currently, the group aerospace arm Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) manufactures fuselage and wings of the aircraft.
“It is our belief that this project is a significant step forward in India’s growth as a high technology, precision, manufacturing destination,” TASL chairman S Ramadorai said after the ground-breaking ceremony for the manufacturing facility here on Monday.
This project is the fourth aerostructures unit to be set up by TASL at Adibatla SEZ in Hyderabad. The Tata- Sikorsky has already delivered over 70 Sikorsky S-92 cabins. The joint venture with Lockheed Martin makes the empennage and centre wing box for the C-130 J Aircraft.
“Our vision is to work with Ruag in having a full aircraft, equipped with systems flying out from a Tata final assembly. This will be of significant importance to the Indian armed forces in their desire to produce products locally,” Mr Ramadorai added.
Mr Ramadorai said that this project has put Hyderabad firmly on the global aerospace map as a premier manufacturing destination for global OEMs. Speaking on the occasion, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao assured inves-tors that the government would offer conducive business atmosphere.
Pitching Telangana as an ideal destination for aerospace companies, Mr Rao said Hyderabad has several world-class research organisations and state-run defence and aerospace companies, which could give unique locational advantage to private companies.
