Telangana, Andhra Pradesh staff tussle over scheduling
Hyderabad: As per latest available data from the SRLDC (Southern Regional Load Dispatch Centre), on Saturday, Andhra Pradesh had a shortage of 7 MU (million units), while Telangana had a shortage of 4 MU.
While the shortage is only around 10 MU per day for the entire region, the power cuts faced by both states in the recent past have not been in proportion to the deficit.
“The scheduling and dispatch operations are already troubled as engineers from both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, with their affiliations, are not seeing eye to eye. They often try to hamper scheduling operations to the other region. This is the primary reason why despite a 10 per cent deficit, the power cuts have been massive,” said an insider.
While there are a lot of techno-economic issues that will come into play in the long run, the immediate impact is already being felt by the people.
Now, coal shortage is likely to affect generation once again and not booking the transmission corridor in advance is an added problem.
“The entire corridor has been booked by Tamil Nadu and Karnataka in advance, and now, even if there is a shortage, no additional power can be accessed from any other region,” added a power official.
