Coal crunch hits Narla Tatarao Thermal Power Station generation
Vijayawada: The Narla Tatarao Thermal Power Station (NTTPS) is struggling to produce its full capacity of 1760 MW power generation from its seven units. Shortage of coal coupled with poor quality of the same is frequently creating severe hurdles for power generation units.
A 210-MW power generation unit was shut down on Sunday due to shortage of coal.
While the plant was revived the same night, shortage of coal is creating regular disturbances.
According to officials, nearly 28,000 tonnes of coal is needed per day for all seven units. But only 12,000 tonnes of stock was available on Sunday. If the plant does not coal reserves from the Singareni collieries on time, the units shut down automatically. But the officials luckily received nearly 20 racks on Sunday night that enabled them to restart the unit.
NTTPS chief engineer J. Sammaiah said that they would ensure all seven units function without any inconvenience and added that they would manage the power generation despite hurdles in getting coal stocks.
