1,000 to lose home to metro

New Bhoiguda residents want HMR to use vacant Rail land

Hyderabad: Over 1,000 residents of New Bhoiguda will be displaced due to Metro works from the Y-junction to the road underbridge at Secunderabad. The residents were given notices in May 2014 informing them that they have to relocate as the land is being acquired for the Hyderabad Metro Rail project. The protesting residents have lodged a complaint with HMR, but there has been no response.

New Bhoidguda, located behind Secunderabad railway station, has 50 independent houses as well as apartments. Gowri Shanker, amember of the residents’ association of New Bhoiguda, said, “We have been told that those who have independent houses, will lose half their property. How are we going to be compensated? There is no clarity on that. There are six to seven apartments and if the flats are demolished where will the people go?”

Angry residents staged a protest and said that the Metro can use the Railway land in New Bhoiguda, which has been lying vacant for years. B.S. Kiran, another local resident, said, “More than 500 square yards of Railway land has been lying vacant just opposite our homes. The land is being misused and has become a nuisance for the residents. This open area can be used by the Metro Rail officials. Why do they want to break our homes?” The residents have appealed to the state government to intervene in the matter.
