Seven Congress MLCs join Telugu Desam Party
Hyderabad: The TD is eyeing the chairman’s post in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council, and, it is also carrying out ‘Operation Akarsh’ which was started by the late chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy. In pre- poll migrations, several Congress MLAs joined TD. Now after the poll, it is the turn of Congress MLCs.
The TD has succeeded in attracting seven MLCs by ‘akarsh’ on Saturday and is trying for more. The TD has no majority in the council to get the chairman’s post. Of the 50 members in the council, nine seats are vacant.
The TD has only seven seats whereas Congress has 15 seats at present including that of the chairman. Some of the Congress MLAs joined YSRC and TD earlier.
On Saturday, seven MLCs Lakshmi Siva Kumari, Sheik Hussein, B. Indira, G. Srinivasulu Naidu, B. Pullaiah, Chaitanya Raju, Ravi Varma joined the TD in the presence of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at his camp office Lake View guest house.
With this, the TD has got majority MLCs and Congress fell into minority in the legislative council. The AP legislative council sessions will start from Monday. Before the sessions, eight MLCs have changed their loyalty.
