Split helps Telangana to drop Andhra Pradesh ration cards
Hyderabad: Telangana government is all set to weed out ineligible ration cards in the state, said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao in Assembly pointing out that the number of ration cards exceeds the population in the district.
Hundreds of crores of public money is being drained every year to provide subsidy to ineligible card holders. State bifurcation has come as a blessing in disguise to the Telangana government who is in the process of changing ration cards from the existing Andhra Pradesh to Telangana.
“We are going to provide new ration cards across the state as we have to change the name. We have also decided to provide a high security smart card to all eligible families which will eliminate all ineligible cards and its holders will lose the benefits,” Irrigation minister T. Harish Rao told this correspondent on Saturday.
