On peace index, India is 143/162

Most peaceful spot was Iceland, followed by Denmark and Austria

Washington: The Earth has just got more violent. The Global Peace Index put out by the Institute for Economics and Peace, headquartered in Australia, shows that almost all major countries have slid down the peace index.

The assessment is data-driven and measures such things as internal crime statistics, political forces, refugee activity, population trends and other factors like terrorism, homicides and economic conditions.

India ranked 143 out of 163 nations, China came in at 108, Russia 152 and Pakistan, 154. The most peaceful spot was Iceland, followed by Denmark and Austria. South Sudan, Afghanistan and Syria brought up the tail end.
