Centre rejigs six Cabinet committees, PM heads four
New Delhi: The government on Thursday reconstituted six Cabinet committees, with four of them to be now headed by Prime Minister and two by Union home minister Rajnath Singh.
The Cabinet Committee on Security will have Mr Singh, Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj as members, which will be headed by the PM.
The Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA) will have members also dr-awn from the NDA alliance partners, which include Ram Vilas Paswan (LJP), Harsimart Kaur (SAD) and Anant Geete (Shiv Sena).
The PM will head Cabinet Committees on Economic Affairs, Appointments and Political Affairs also. Mr Singh will head the Cabinet Committee on Accommodation and Parliamentary Affairs.
The CCEA will have 11 members, including Mr Modi, Mr Singh, Ms Swa-raj, Mr Jaitley, urban development minister M. Venkaiah Naidu and transport minister Nitin Gadkari.
Earlier this month, the PM had scrapped the Ca-binet Committee on Pri-ces, World Trade Matters and UIDAI and the CCEA will now handle their functions. The other committee disbanded was the Cabinet Committee on Managem-ent of Natural Calamities.
With regard to the Cabinet Committee on UIDAI-related issues, major decisions have already been ta-ken and the remaining will be brought to the CCEA.
The functions of the Cabinet Committee on Manage-ment of Natural Calamit-ies will be handled by the Committee under the Cabinet secretary whenever natural calamities occur.
The functions of the Cabinet Committee on WTO matters will also be handled by the CCEA.
