TD MLA Revanth Reddy hits out at Telangana CM on cement
Hyderabad: Accusing Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for shielding the cement manufacturing companies and its owners and allowing them to hike the cement prices abnormally, Telugu Desam MLA A. Revanth Reddy said at least now the government should come to the rescue of the people in arresting the spiraling prices.
Addressing a media conference here on Wednesday, Mr Reddy said Mr Rao is supposed to be the real kingpin behind cement company owners forming a cartel for hiking the prices almost immediately after formation of the new government in Telangana.
However Mr Revanth Reddy refused to name the cement company owner but said it is common knowledge that Mr Rao was meeting him often.
He reminded the Chief Minister that when cement companies indulged in similar hiking of prices in 2009, the central government constituted Competition Commission took it seriously and imposed a fine of Rs 6,500 crores on all the cement companies that have indulged in artificial scarcity of the commodity and for hiking the price.
“It is quite surprising KCR made a statement in the Assembly recently that government do not have any powers to control the price. He should know the existence of Competition Commission which is exclusively set up to deal with such issues,” Revanth Reddy said.
