Mallikarjun Kharge to lead stir in Khammam district
Hyderabad: Leader of the Congress parliamentary party in Lok Sabha and former Union minister Mallikarjun Kharge will lead the agitation in Khammam district against the Union government’s ordinance merging seven mandals into Seemandhra.
Mr Kharge will tour Khammam district on June 21 and 22, including the areas of tribal tracks that will be affected due to merger of mandals in Seemandhra.
This was disclosed by congress MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy to the media on Wednesday.
He said both Mr Kharge and leader of opposition Mr K. Jana Reddy will tour the district to get firsthand report from the tribals and other people in order to continue the stir against the disputed ordinance on Polavaram.
“There is mass scale upsurge among the tribals against the Ordinance. Not only the 205 villages that are going to be submerged in Polavaram even the other 300 unaffected villages were also now included in Seemandhra that fall under the seven mandals. This is unjust and unreasonable,” Mr Sudhakar Reddy said.
He also said due to the Ordinance, the hydel electric stations of Sileru belt have also come under the Seemandhra state which is highly objectionable to Telangana and its people.
He said Mr Kharge assured him that the matter will be taken up in the next Budget Session of Parliament.
