JD(U) to get Lalu Prasad Yadav's support for Rajya Sabha polls

Lalu’s decision came after three days of discussion with his party colleagues

PATNA: RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Wednesday cited Lord Buddha as he brushed aside protests from his party’s leaders and announced support for the RJD’s bitter rival JD(U) for the Rajya Sabha bypolls, saying his move would help defeat the “gameplan of communal forces.” Mr Yadav’s decision came after three days of uneasy deliberations he held with his largely reluctant party colleagues and MLAs since the day his arch-rival and former CM Nitish Kumar called him, seeking the RJD’s support for the two JD(U) nominees in the RS bypolls.

Now, with the assured support of 21 RJD legislators, the ruling party of Bihar is less worried about its nominees losing to the two Independent candidates put up by JD(U) rebel MLAs with the alleged support of the Opposition BJP. Mr Kumar thanked Mr Yadav for his help a day before polling takes place for the two RS berths.
