Iraq crisis deepens: Super Hercules ready for evacuation says IAF

No reports of any Indians targeted: MEA

New Delhi: Super Hercules of the Indian Airforce (IAF) is prepared to leave stranded Indians in Iraq if they are asked to do so. Super Hercules is available for any emergency evacuation as per IAF, C 130.

The IAF has told Headlines Today that commitments will be undertaken as and when asked. 40 Indians in Mosul are unaccountable said the Ministry of External Affairs.

Over 40 Indians are missing in the violence-torn Iraqi town of Mosul, which fell to Islamist militants on June 10. The foreign ministry has not been able to establish communication with them till now.

“Despite best efforts we are not able to contact them yet, so can't speculate-Syed Akbaruddin, MEA on report of 40 Indians stranded in Mosul,” said Syed Akbaruddin, Indian foreign ministry spokesperson.

Meanwhile, Indian nurses stranded in northern Iraq have been living like prisoners at a state-run hospital in Tikrit after being abandoned by their employers as well as the military, reports said Tuesday. As many as 46 nurses from the southern Indian state of Kerala are in Iraq waiting for the turmoil to subside.
