Himachal Pradesh High Court asks state to resubmit report
Hyderabad: The Himachal Pradesh High Court has expressed dissatisfaction over the Beas tragedy report submitted by the HP government and has asked it resubmit the report by June 19. The HC also made VNR Vignana Jyothi College a respondent in the case.
Himachal HC had taken suo motu cognizance of news reports after 24 students of VNR Vignan Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology were washed away in the river.
The report said that the spill-way gates of Larji dam were opened, and that increased water spillage from 50 cumecs to 150 cumecs. This caused substantial increase in water flow leading to the students being washed away.
Meanwhile, TRS MP B. Vinod Kumar asked the National Disaster Response Force to acquire modern gadgets. “I saw the search operations... The efforts of NDRF and other agencies were laudable. However, they need better equipment for quicker search.”
The bodies of eight students have been recovered so far.
