Andhra capital crisis? Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu remains undecided

AP CM consulting experts, waiting for report on capital’s needs

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has not yet decided on a new capital city.

According to sources, Mr Naidu has delegated the job of preparing the blueprint of the new capital to different committees and individual experts.
He is also asking experts about the required facilities and buildings, land and money would be required to construct the capital, the time it would take etc.

Sources said that while he has not yet revealed the location of the new capital city, he has told them that it will come up between Vijayawada and Guntur.
The Centre will bear the expenses for the construction of the new capital. The expert committee, constituted by the Centre, will submit its report in September.

State finance minister Yanamala Rama Krishnudu said that the AP government engineers were preparing a report on Mr Naidu’s directions and that the CM would concentrate on the new capital after the Sivarama Krishnan Committee submits its report.

After the Hyderabad experience, the Telugu Desam government wants to decentralise developmental activities and plans to set up some important offices outside the capital. However, the question remains whether the Central government will bear the expen-ses to construct these buildings if they are situated outside the capital.

Mr Krishnudu, meanwhile, said that the Centre would have to pay as a state-level office building, in some other city, would also be part of the capital.
He added that the RR package (relief and rehabilitation) for land acquisition for the construction of the new capital would favour farmers and private people and hoped that the farmers would not object to part with their land for building the new capital.
