Bengaluru techie held for blackmailing girl

Accused collected 6 lakh from victim threatening to upload her semi-nude photos

Hyderabad: A 30-year-old techie, identified as Sidhanth Raj, allegedly extorted lakhs of rupees from a woman software professional at Gachibowli by threatening to upload her semi-nude photos online.

Sidhanth, an operations manager working in Bengaluru, had earlier lured the victim by promising to marry. He had taken the photographs when they were in a relationship, and later demanded lakhs of rupees to destroy the images.

Police said, the accused collected more than Rs 6 lakh from the victim. “He forced her to take a loan of Rs 3.9 lakh and transferred the amount to his wife’s account. He also took out Rs 1.5 lakh using the victim’s credit card,” said additional DCP, Crime, Cyberabad Janaki Sharmila.

Cops said the victim was not aware that Raj was married. Cyberabad Cyber Crime police team arrested the accused from Bengaluru and brought to the city.

He was produced before court and sent for Judicial remand.
