All for an easy search experience
Hyderabad: When users visit Pinterest.com, they will soon be able to see a new search bar, and just as it works on mobile, the search features will throw up recommended keywords intended to help generate more specific queries and better search results.
For those who aren’t aware of what Pinterest exactly is, the website is a visual discovery tool that lets users collect ideas for their interests and projects. Users can do so by creating and sharing collections, better known as boards, of visual bookmarks, which are known as Pins.
So how does the new search work? For example, when searching for ‘BBQ’ on Pinterest, other keywords like ‘wings’, ‘recipes’, or ‘chicken’ will pop up. The keywords serve as filters, which help users find exactly what they’re looking for.
For Pinterest, which now has 30 billion pins on more than 750 million boards, search is of prime importance. The website is so big that the majority of items users want to find are probably pinned somewhere but very hard to find them. It’s also why Pinterest offers Rich Pins that add more detailed descriptions to the images being shared on the platform.
Pinterest’s longterm monetisation may also depend on its efforts to make content more accessible. Users must be able to find what they are looking for if brands want to make their items shoppable; Guided Search expands that discovery objective for Pinterest.
The new search tool will be available to users in the United States this week, and Pinterest’s international users will get Guided Search on the Web at a later point, according to a blog post.
