Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao to have bigger team by June end

CM has currently 11 ministers in his cabinet

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is all set to expand his Cabinet before ‘Aashadam’ month begins on June 28. Mr Rao, known for relying on “sentiment” and “numbers”, is likely to induct new ministers into his Cabinet on June 24, which meets his lucky number of six when two and four are added.

Aashadam month in the Telugu calendar is considered to be inauspicious and no new initiatives are taken up during this period. The month starts on June 28 and ends on July 26.

On June 2, while taking oath as the first Chief Minister of Telangana, Mr Rao had inducted 11 ministers. The total size of the Telangana Cabinet should be 18, including the CM, which means that Mr Rao has room left for six more ministers.

Soon after taking oath as Chief Minister, Mr Rao was busy with the appointments of top officials like chief secretary, DGP, CMO staff and holding the first session of the Telangana Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council.

After successful completion of sessions of both the Houses on June 14, he has now set his eyes on expansion of the Cabinet and is discussing with senior leaders of the party regarding shortlisting candidates.

The top priority for Mr Rao now is inducting women ministers into his Cabinet since there is not a single woman in his team, which had invited criticism from various quarters.
