Government Railway Police has beefed up security

GRP active following the attack on a senior citizen and passengers been robbed

Hyderabad: The Government Railway Police (GRP) has beefed up security following the attack on a senior citizen on Saturday.

Officials have identified the tracks between Seethaphalmandi and Secunderabad railway stations as one of the areas vulnerable to attacks. There were incidents reported wherein passengers have been robbed on the tracks at the graveyard and on the bridge at Chilkalguda.

Earlier, there were policemen patrolling the tracks at night, as most of the incidents were reported at that time. After the recent incident, officials said that there would be daytime patrolling as well.

Working people who travel by trains to their destinations have also been robbed on their way back home. Meanwhile on MMTS trains, the RPF guards who are deployed mainly focus on checking eve teasing and smoking, say passengers.

Officials say as most of the incidents take place at night, considerable amount of security measures are taken only during that time. Policemen in mufti also patrol during night at these vulnerable places.

“We didn’t expect the attack. From now on we will also deploy a guard on the tracks between the two stations to prevent such incidents.” said Mr Anjaneyulu, Inspector, GRP Secunderabad.

Hinting at a staff crunch, the Railway cops say their prime focus is to safeguard the thousands of passengers who come to the stations.

“Our utmost focus has been to provide security to thousands of passengers who come to the stations. We remain vigilant constantly to prevent any untoward incident in the premises. This incident occurred on the path,” Mr Anjaneyulu added.

Railway police officials added that they had shut down all illegal entry points into the station and were rooting out illegal settlers like vagabonds and beggars on the platforms and tracks.
