Nitish Kumar goes to rival Lalu Prasad for Rajya Sabha support

Both Congress and CPI supported Kumar’s move

Patna: Putting all his political differences with RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav behind, JD-U leader and ex-Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Saturday spoke to his arch-rival to seek the RJD’s support for the JD(U)’s official Rajya Sabha nominees to foil the strategy of the party’s rebel MLAs.

Accusing the Opposition BJP of encouraging the JD(U)’s rebels to put up two Independent candidates, Mr Kumar said that the saffron party was keen on destabilising the Jitan Ram Manjhi government by seizing upon the “present situation” caused by the rebellion in the ruling party.

Both the BJP and the JD(U) rebels rubbished Mr Kumar’s charges and mocked his reaching out to Mr Yadav, apparently diluting two decades of anti-Lalu politics.

While Mr Yadav and RJD leaders weighed their options, the Congress and the CPI supported Mr Kumar’s move.
