Memorial for Martyrs in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday said in the Assembly that he was moved by the suicide of K. Srikanth Chary, a student who immolated himself for Telangana, the first Telangana martyr during the second phase of Telangana agitation in 2009.
Mr Rao said Telangana was the result of sacrifices made by hundreds of T-martyrs and students and his government will build a memorial for the martyrs in Hyderabad along the lines of the Statue of Liberty in New York. He added that the memorial will contain all the details of the martyrs.
The House paid tributes to the martyrs on the last day of the Assembly’s first session. In the last day 12 resolutions were passed which included seeking “special category status” from the Centre for nine out of 10 districts of Telangana.
Other resolutions are seeking IT exemption for Singareni Collieries Company Ltd, creating a separate High Court for Telangana, implementing 33 per cent reservations for women by increasing the seats in legislative bodies and other institutions, creating a separate ministry for the welfare of BCs.
