AP Chief Minister seeks locations for national level institutes
Hyderabad: AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu asked the Sivaramakrishnan committee to suggest suitable locations for setting up 11 national-level institutions like AIIMS, IIIT, IIM, IIT, tribal university, petroleum university and NIT keeping in view the environmental clearances required for them if they fall in the sea coast area.
On construction of Secretariat, Assembly and other office buildings in close vicinity, Mr Naidu was of the opinion that if the important administrative buildings are located at a short distance from each other, it would facilitate the government to convene internal department meetings at short notice and time could also be saved. At one point of time, Mr Naidu also talked about integrated office building concept.
“It was agreed that four-lane roads on each side should be provided to the capital city from various towns that would be developed into smart cities. However, no one spoke about Vijayawada and Guntur as having been decided as the location for capital city,” sources said.
Mr Naidu was clearing his vision for the capital city stating it should have social life and should reflect the Telugu culture and pride. The capital city should have good road, rail and air connectivity.
Mr Naidu was also in favour of handing over the existing airport at Visakhapatnam to the defence authorities in due course of time and developing an ultra-modern international airport in 5,000 acres of land in Visakhapatnam.
It may be mentioned that the municipal administration and urban development minister Dr P. Narayana has already conducted a review meeting with district collectors of Krishna, Guntur, Visakhapatnam and Chittoor and asked them to submit within 10 days details about availability of government land, dry land, private agricultural land, agricultural land which is high yielding with water source available to it, and those parcels of agricultural land where water source was not available in close vicinity.
“The plan is to offer a package to farners which they cannot refuse. If one acre of land is taken from a farmer, he would be given 400 to 1,200 square yards of land which would be fully developed with all civic amenities and the monetary value of which would be several times more than one acre he has surrendered. This formula is being discussed to be applied for whatever extent of land that would be acquired for capital city, airports and any other purposes,” said sources.
