BJP to field Nirmala Sitharaman for lone Andhra Pradesh Rajya Sabha seat

Hyderabad: The Election Commission has announced July 3 as the date for the by-poll for the lone vacant Rajya Sabha seat from Seemandhra. The by-poll was necessitated due to the death of former Chief Minister, N. Janardhana Reddy, on May 9. It is a foregone conclusion now, that the Union Minister of Commerce, Nirmala Sitharaman, would be the candidate from the BJP for the by-poll and AP Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, had already promised to support her. It is also likely that the by-poll will be unanimous as the TD-BJP combine enjoys absolute majority in the AP Legislature.

Filing of nomination papers for the by polls will commence from June 16th and continue till June 23rd. The scrutiny would be done on June 24th. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is June 26th. If necessary, the polling would be conducted on July 3rd.
