Power cuts jolt Telangana, Andhra Pradesh

Load-sheddings at night upset people; water supply affected

Hyderabad: Power cuts have derailed normal life in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, affecting supplies of water, and affecting the working of industries and agriculture.

In the old city area of Hyderabad there four to five hours of power cuts and in some other parts of Telangana there are two to three hours of power cuts daily.

The situation in the districts of Andhra Pradesh is worse with eight-hour cuts.

Most areas in the twin cities have not been spared night-time emergency cuts too. Citizens living in the old city complain that no one responds to their repeated complaints or takes their phone calls.

The sweltering heat has increased the problems in the districts of both states with drinking water supply, hospitals and even agriculture being affected.

The power deficit is currently 19 million units per day in AP and 11 MU in Telangana.

In Ameenpur, Talim Amlapur, Karwan, Mahbub Colony, Muradnagar, Asifnagar, Sabzimandi and Puranapul power cuts at night keep citizens awake.

“The local officials are neglecting complaints and not even giving a proper reply to our complaints. Each time we call with a complaint, we are told the supply will be back in half-an-hour or one hour, but this doesn’t happen,” said Md. Taheer, a resident of Karwan.

“Our area has power cuts five to six times throughout the day and night. Four to five-hour cuts during the day and several other half-an hour to one hour cuts are implemented throughout the night. The day-time cuts are tough on children and elderly people. Even water supply has been hit; we don’t even get 15 minutes of regular water supply which comes every alternate day,” said Ameena from Mahbubnagar.

Old city areas of Hyderabad: 4 hour to 5 hour power cuts.
Parts of Telangana: 2 hour to 3 hour power cuts.

Andhra Pradesh districts: 8 hour power cuts.
The twin cities are also facing night-time emergency power cuts.

Sweltering heat has lead to drinking water supply problems and affected hospitals and agriculture in both states.
