Metro rail must go underground: CM K Chandrasekhar Rao

CM said that the Metro Rail project was posing a threat to Assembly building

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday categorically stated that his government would not allow demolition of Sultan Bazaar and other structures, which had heritage and historical importance, to facilitate the construction of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project.

Mr Rao made it clear in the Legislative Assembly that the elevated Metro Rail project would have to go underground wherever there was threat to heritage structures and the project design would have to be realigned for this.

He said that the Metro Rail project was posing a threat even to the Assembly building and the Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial in front of the Assembly by passing very near to them. He added that he had conveyed his concerns about the project to the officials of the HMR and the builder, L&T, asking th-em to examine “realignment” of the project.
