CISF yet to control Nagarjunasagar dam

Telangana and AP govts have kept away CISF from physically taking control

Hyderabad: Indecision of Telangana and AP governments has kept away the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) from physically taking control of Nagarjunasagar dam. As per AP Reorganisation Act, the CISF was supposed to take control of the dam from the Appointed Day so that none of the two state governments can claim control over the huge water project.

Though senior officers from the CISF came to Hyderabad after June 2 and urged both the state governments to arrange for their accommodation, vehicles, salaries and other logistics, officials of both the state governments sent them away after assuring to look into the issue.

Sources told this correspondent that till date none of the State governments i.e. neither Telangana nor Andhra Pradesh government has come forward to bear the expenditure towards accommodation of 600 CISF personnel, allot them vehicles and also ensure salaries.

When contactred, officials in botyh AP and Telangana irrigation departments said it is the Krishna River management Board that has to pay the salaries, provide accommodation and logistical support to the CISF.

“The AP and T States will have to decided who will give money and that money has to be released to the River Board that in turn will take care of CISF. The Central government has delayed formation of the Board in full scale. It has appointed only chairperson but other required members on the Board are yet to be constituted. In such a case, how can any State government take a decision on CISF,” said officials.

However, some of the officials said it is always advisable that all important water sources like Nagarjunasagar dam are under the control of central agencies such as CISF. The sooner this is done the better it is for both the States, said a senior official.
