Movie review 'Uyirukku Uyiraga': Vijaya Manojumar is back after a gap wielding megaphone

While the first half of the movie is bland, post interval it picks up momentum

CAST: Sanjeev, Sharan, Prabhu, Preeti Das, Nandhana

DIRECTION: Vijaya Manojkumar

RATING: **

The film opens with a couple Rangasamy (Prabhu) and Lakshmi (Sriranjani) giving a matrimony ad in a newspaper for their son Karthik (Sharan Kumar) an engineering student. But Karthik hates the very idea of love. Many girls including our heroine Pinky (Preeti Das) land up in front of Karthik’s house.

However, Pinky pretends to be a media reporter and starts interviewing the parents. We come to know that Preeti is actually a medical student and is fond of Karthik. She slowly wins over his parents, but fails to impress Karthik as he shuns away from her. One day, he lands up in jail for thrashing his friend (son of a senior police officer) during a scuffle. When the Deputy Commissioner refuses a bail, Pinky comes to Karthik’s rescue. She has a word with the DC who immediately releases Karthik from the station.

When Karthik parents wonder as who she is, in the next scene we are shown that Pinky is the granddaughter of the state Governor. A flashback shows the real reason for Karthik’s detestation for love. Karthik has an older brother Suriya (Sanjeev) who commits suicide when he gets cheated by his lover Priya (Nandhana).

Sanjeev and Sharan show lot of promise. They do their sibling act well. Seasoned actor Prabhu is as usual and shines in the climax. Debutant Preeti Das manages to make a mark indulging in skin show in song sequences, but has a long way to go in terms of acting. Nandhana in a negative role is adequate. Satish’s comedy falls flat.

Vijaya Manojumar is back after a gap wielding megaphone. Though he tries to impart a good message, the incoherent screenplay plays the spoilsport. While the first half is bland, post interval it picks up momentum.
