YSRC seeks Nandyal MP’s ouster
NEW DELHI: The YSR Congress on Thursday sought the disqualification of Nandyal MP S.P.Y. Reddy, who recently joined the Telugu Desam, under the 10th Schedule of the Constitution.
A delegation of YSRC MPs, led by its Parliamentary party leader M. Rajamohan Reddy, met Speaker Sumitra Mahajan in Parliament and submitted a formal letter seeking Mr Reddy’s disqualification.
“We met the Speaker and told her that Mr Reddy had voluntarily announced his decision to join the Telugu Desam after winning on a YSRC ticket. We gave her the newspaper clippings of his announcement. He had also announced that he would win again if there are fresh
elections,” Mr Rajamohan Reddy said.
“S.P.Y. Reddy’s action of joining the TD after being elected from the YSRC attracts the provisions of Clause 2 (1) (a) of the 10th Schedule to the Constitution of India and consequently he is liable to be disqualified as a Member of the Lok Sabha,” the letter said.
When contacted, Mr Reddy said that he would not comment on the issue unless the Speaker sends him a notice. “I will not comment unless I get some notice or letter from the Speaker. I will speak only after the notice,” he said.
