K. Chandrasekhar Rao may launch Metro trials
Hyderabad: The first Metro train brought from Korea is scheduled to be inaugurated for trial runs by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao at the Uppal depot next week. According to sources, while the Metro Rail officials have put the proposal before the CM, there has been no confirmation from Chief Minister’s Office so far.
The train, which comprises three coaches, requires to be checked for safety, air conditioning, ability to carry weight, speed control at curves and also for its respond to the signaling system from the control room. All the three coaches will be filled with sand bags to check their carrying capacity. The present plan is to operate only three coaches in the city. Hence the ability of the three coaches will be tested at the depot.
A senior official said, “The trials will be carried out at the depot for six months and all variants will be checked, rechecked and the trains will also be put through stimulating situations to check the response of the team. The preparedness of the team, the ability of various software systems to synchronise with each other and also the ability to follow commands in the right manner will be put to test at the depot.”
The engineers are on alert as the smallest response has to be evaluated with precision and any deviation would mean that they have to get the system to re-evaluate the commands and respond accordingly. While L&T and Hyderabad Metro Rail authorities are keeping their fingers crossed, it is only the response of the evaluation and further safety certificate from the Indian Railways that will see the trains in actual service. After the six months of testing at Uppal, another three months will be needed for actual trial runs on the stretch from Uppal to Nagole.
