Srinagar: An Army jawan was killed and five others, including a Major, were wounded in separate improvised explosive device blasts triggered by suspected militants in areas close to the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Thursday.

Officials in Poonch said that Shankar Singh of 20 Jat Regiment was killed on-the-spot while Lance Naik Mahindar Singh and Sepoys Shamveer and Surinder Prasad of 6 Rajputana were injured in the blast in Balakote sector of the LoC at about 8.30 am on Thursday.

“They were part of an Army foot patrol targeted in the Gambhir battalion area of the LoC,” defence spokesperson in Jammu, Col. Manish Mehta, said.
Soon Army reinforcements started searches in the area. Army officials also said that the IED had been planted by suspected militants in a foot track going to a forward post in Tarkundi forward belt along LoC.
