Coimbatore: In a ghastly incident, two minor girls at a home for the poor children of the Tamil Evangelical Lutheran Church (TELC) were raped by unidentified persons in Pollachi early Thursday morning.

The girls, aged about 10 and 11, were raped and abandoned on the terrace of a commercial building near the unguarded, unlicensed orphanage. They have suffered grievous injuries and are being treated at Pollachi government hospital, police said.

Around 2 am, two men entered the unguarded home asking for water. When the two girls offered them a glass of water, the duo whisked them away. An inmate of the home who saw the girls being dragged away alerted the warden and who informed the police. Within 30 minutes, the two children were found lying with bleeding injuries on the terrace of a nearby building.
