Crossing barriers with her voice

Menon sang her first Telugu song for a film starring Nithya Menen and Sharwanand
Divya S. Menon is over the moon her song Thudakkam Maangalyam Thanthunanena, from Bangalore Days, is still on the popular music chart.“The song in Bangalore Days and the Telugu song are close to my heart. Both have my favourite actors Nazriya and Nithya, respectively, acting in them. And of course the title song from Thattathin Marayathu, is also a special one as it is my debut solo song as a playback
singer.”It was music composer Shaan Rahman who first noticed Divya when she was hosting a music show in a major channel. “My first song was from the album Coffee @ MG Road and thanks to Shaan for giving me a break in playback singing,” says the Kochi based Divya.
Talking about her first Telugu song which was composed by Gopi Sunder, Divya says, “It
was a pretty long song. I don't know the language and was really hard to learn the diction.
Gopi Sunder and the lyricist were my saviours.”Divya adds, “They gave me the meaning of each line and helped me in the diction. After recording the song, I was very happy when they complimented for having picked up the song well.” Divya started learning music during childhood but took it seriously only during her
college days. “I am a huge fan of K.S. Chitra and Sujatha Menon. They inspired me to get into singing. I did my Post Graduation in Fashion Designing, but did not pursue a career in that field as I did not want to restrict my singing career in any way.”She has a few projects in the pipeline and is getting quite busy. “I should thank my husband. After my parents, he has been a huge support for me. Despite his busy schedule, he waits in the studio till I finish my recording,” smiles Divya.
