IPL spot-fixing: Justice Mudgal probe committee to meet on 18th June
Mumbai: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly's first official interaction with other members of the Mudgal panel is scheduled on June 18 in Delhi.
In fact Ganguly's inputs were earlier sought by Mudgal panel when he was invited during the fact-fixing mission conducted by the same members.
Now, being himself in the panel, Sourav Ganguly, in the presence of police officials from Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai, is likely to be shown the recordings of few IPL matches and his expert opinion on on shots played by suspectful batsmen and actions of few bowlers while delivering the balls will be sought.
Interestingly, Rakesh Maria, the Mumbai Police commissioner is now taking personal interest in the investigation. He, along with his colleagues, met the IPL members on Sunday in Mumbai.
Maria is believed to have formed a special team, who will secretly investigate the betting and fixing allegations.
No high opinion about Mumbai Police was formed by Mudgal panel in its original probe committee report. "The approach of the Mumbai police appears very curious and more so keeping in mind the abrupt voluntary statement of the Mumbai Police before the Committee that their focus in the said investigation was Gurunath Meiyappan", the original report says.
However, Maria's recent meeting with the Mudgal probe panel was believed to be very impressive.
