Karunanidhi replies to Jayalalithaa’s rebuff on Cauvery
Chennai: DMK chief Karunanidhi, reacting to the charges of Jayalailthaa who called all-party meeting a meaningless exercise, on Tuesday wondered if Karnataka CM was meaningless in acting in consultation with all parties.
Denying CM’s charges that he secretly withdrew the Cauvery case filed by TN government during his chief ministership in the past, the five-time chief minister clarified that the case was not withdrawn secretly but only in consultation with all parties and that too on the request of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi that the case could be a hurdle to amicable settle the Cauvery river water row through bilateral negotiations between the two states.
Criticising the chief minister for faulting the previous DMK regime for delaying the gazette notification of the final verdict of the Cauvery tribunal, he cited the pending special leave petitions filed by Kerala, Karanataka and also Tamil Nadu, challenging the final verdict of the tribunal, and said the final award would come into force only after the tribunal’s report on the SLPs get notified in the Central gazette.
