Padma Devender Reddy to be deputy Speaker
Hyderabad: TRS MLA from Medak Padma Devender Reddy will be the deputy Speaker of Telangana Legislative Assembly. She will be declared elected as the deputy Speaker on Thursday. With the lone nomination filed for the post on Wednesday, the declaration about her election will be only a formality. Ms Reddy, a law graduate and a two-time MLA defeated tollywood actress Vijayashanthi in recent Assembly polls from Medak constituency.
S. Madhusudhana Chary was elected the Speaker unanimously and he assumed office on Tuesday. A key party activist, 45-year old Ms Reddy was elected from Medak Assembly constituency in the recent polls. A graduate in arts and law, Ms Reddy practised as an advocate, but later joined politics.
She was elected from Ramayanpet Assembly constituency in Medak district in 2004, but lost in 2009 elections. She was suspended from the TRS in 2009 and contested as a rebel. She joined the TRS again in 2010. Interestingly, Mr Rao was the deputy Speaker in 2001 when he quit the post, launched the party and Telangana movement.
