Chandrababu Naidu to oversee Tirumala reforms

Naidu to ovrsee the allocation of funds into various activities of TTD

Tirumala: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is expected to bring in much needed reforms at the TTD, which oversees the Tirumala temple.

Known to focus on the TTD keenly, Mr Naidu, even before his swearing-in, had vowed to turn Tirupati into a spiritual capital.

The TTD affairs had undergone a sea change when Mr Naidu stepped down as CM a decade back, so much so that he had even undertaken a series of protests.

Mr Naidu’s administration is expected to rework the darshan systems, queue lines, allotment of accommodation, distribution of prasadams and re-assess the quality of food served at the Annaprasadam complex.

One of the most important aspects which the CM would be looking into would be the “budget” of the TTD which has grown from Rs 633 crore in 2004-05 to Rs 2,401 crore this fiscal.

Allocation of funds to various activities, including the Hindu Dharma Prachara Parishad, which does not come under the audit purview is likely to be overseen by the Chief Minister himself.

Sources said that Mr Naidu is contemplating bringing back IAS officer P. Balasubramanyam, who had served as joint executive officer of the TTD for close to nine years during the previous tenure of Mr Naidu, as TTD advisor.
