Akhilesh Yadav blames officials for rape

UP CM advised officers to introspect and directed police chiefs to the spot and give correct information

New delhi/lucknow: Facing flak over the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday said the district administrations sho-uld have taken necessary steps in the rape incidents that took place in Badaun and Kannauj.

The CBI has on Tuesday received a request from Uttar Pradesh government to probe the gangrape and murder of two girls in Badaun and is now waiting for a formal notification from the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).

The UP Chief Minister held a meeting with top administrative and police officials and said the kind of work expected from the police and administration in the district was “not being done”.

Mr Yadav assured that while hardworking and honest officers would be protected, stern action would be taken against lax and corrupt ones.

He said the district magistrates should keep a watch on the quality of basic projects in their districts and take quick action in case of corruption and inform the government.
