4 booked for Modi picture in ‘negative list’
THRISSUR: The principal and seven students of a government polytechnic in Kunnamkulam has been booked for defamation for listing Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi as one of the “cruellest persons” in history” in the college magazine.
Mr Modi’s picture was tagged along with that of Adolf Hitler, Osama Bin Laden, Ajmal Kasab, sandalwood smuggler Veerappan, LTTE supremo Prabhakaran, former US president George W. Bush, and five others under the headline “Negative Faces.”
The college magazine named ‘Litsockiniga’ was brought out by the students of 2013-2014 academic year in February. Designed as a replica of Facebook, the magazine also contains the pictures of eminent personalities such as Mother Teresa, Che Guevara and Gandhiji.
Local BJP workers staged a protest burnt copies of the magazine.
The Kunnamkulam police registered the case under IPC section 153 on the basis of a complaint filed by ABVP, the student wing of the BJP. The SFI is the majority union in the polytechnic.
Magazine editor Praveen Kumar said it was published much before Mr Modi became the Prime Minister and blamed vested interests for politicising the issue.
The polytechnic authorities hinted that the magazine would be withdrawn as it has sparked a controversy.
