President's address jugglery of words, says Opposition

Congress spokesperson said the entire address had no original vision of the government

New Delhi: Describing President Pranab Mukherjee’s address to the Parliament as a “jugglery of words” and “rehash” of the BJP’s election slogans, the Opposition on Monday slammed the Narendra Modi government for failing to come out with any “concrete road-map” for its agenda.

While the Congress claimed that the address failed to give any sense of government’s direction, CPM said the government’s “blueprint” for the coming year was missing in the President’s address, which was “re-hash of BJP manifesto.”

The government, however, maintained the address “breaks new ground” as it points to the goal of building a strong, self-reliant and self-confident India and the focus will be on delivery and implementation of policies and programmes.

Congress spokesperson Anand Sharma said that the address was replete with slogans used by Mr Modi in the poll campaign which the country has been hearing for the past six months.

“There is no new line of thinking. It’s just jugglery of words. It does not give any direction. It is full of platitudes and replete with clichés and slogans. There is no original vision of the government. The whole approach is superficial,” he said.
