Eamcet results 2014: Andhra Pradesh scores over Telangana

Telangana’s percentage was about 68.86 while AP had 72.59

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh scored over Telangana in ranks in the Eamcet medical and engineering streams. The proportion of students from Andhra Pradesh, who qualified for ranking in Eamcet, was higher than those from Telangana. Among the top rankers in medical and engineering though, 11 out of 20 were from Andhra Pradesh. Seven out of the 20 were from Hyderabad.

In the engineering stream, Telangana’s qualification percentage was about 68.86 per cent while that of AP, it was 72.59 per cent. In medical, 86.21 per cent of those who wrote the Eamcet qualified while about 80.98 per cent from Telangana qualified for admissions into engineering colleges. A higher number of students from AP appeared in both streams of the Eamcet. Officials said distribution of students from Telangana and AP could give a wrong picture.

“A lot of students who come for coaching in Hyderabad are from Andhra Pradesh. There are students from Telangana also but nativity is the actual factor,” an official said.

One mark changed ranks in Eamcet

Nobody could score a 160 on 160 in either streams of Eamcet this year, but small mistakes cost a lot of students some good ranks.

One mark cost students several ranks. The effect of this was profound in the medical stream. From the 500th rank, each mark cost students nearly 60 to 70 ranks with the difference between the first and 810th rank being 21 marks in the medical stream.

A difference of five marks in the Eamcet medical stream pushed ranks down by as much as 386 ranks, specially in 800 to 1500 rank range. A rank below 800 can fetch a good seat in medicine or dental sciences. However, getting a rank that is not in that range, cannot guarantee a good medical college seat.

A difference of 20 marks from 137 to 117 saw the position drop by 3071 ranks. A score above 140 in the medical exam could only fetch students a rank below 670.

In the engineering stream, the competition was a little relaxed at the top with a score above 130 out of 160 guaranteeing a rank below 500. The field, however, got tougher in the 1,000 to 10,000 rank range. A score above 120 fetched students a rank below 1,235. But after that each mark cost students about 100 ranks. As marks obtained by students decreased, the difference in ranks increased.

While in medical, the maximum difference in ranks one mark could create was 3,653 ranks (between 45 and 44 marks), in engineering the difference one mark created was as huge as 12,245 ranks.
