Telangana to be like Gujarat, says Nirmala Sitharaman
Hyderabad: Union commerce minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday said Telangana would be developed on the lines of Gujarat. The minister reiterated that the Centre is committed to help both the new states adding that the industrial sector would be given a push with a focus on the food processing industry.
She also said the government will be working on the blueprint of the new foreign trade policy for the next five years. On Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in various sectors, she said decisions would be taken according to the party manifesto.
Ms Sitharaman arrived in the city for the first time after the formation of the government. She is en route to Guntur to attend Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister designate N. Chandrababu Naidu’s swearing-in ceremony on Sunday.
Speaking at the BJP office, Ms Sitharaman said she was extremely happy about the formation of Telangana. “We have to ensure that it becomes one of the best states in the country like Gujarat. We will follow the Gujarat model,” she said, in fluent Telugu.
“We need to develop all sectors. Industrial sector will be given a push along with agriculture,” she said. She also added that the formation of the new state has given a lot of opportunities to create more employment but cautioned that skills also need to be honed.
“With the formation of Telangana, there is higher scope for employment. We need to provide necessary training for skill development for youth. We will develop both the states equally,” she added.
