Rowdy held for Ramulu murder
Hyderabad: Former Naxal fugitive Nayeem’s associate and rowdy-sheeter Mohmmed Yousuf was arrested by the Commissioner’s Task Force in Hyderabad. Acting on a tip off, the Task Force team picked Yousuf from the old city after a covert operation.
Yousuf, a fugitive in at least two cases, was also allegedly involved in the recent murder of Telangana Rashtra Samiti executive committee member K. Ramulu in Nalgonda. Officials said that Yousuf would be handed over to the Nalgonda police probing the Ramulu murder case. Yousuf, who has at least five major criminal cases against him, had failed in an earlier attempt to kill Ramulu in Chaitanyapuri.
“In February, Yousuf and his gang had tried to kill Ramulu. We had booked a case against him for criminal conspiracy to commit murder,” said an official from Chaitanyapuri police station.
TRS executive committee member and brother of former top Maoist leader Samba-shivudu, Ramulu was shot dead by unidentified persons on May 11 in Nalgonda town. Police suspected the involvement of ex-Naxal Nayeem and his associates’ in the murder. Though six members of Nayeem’s gang were arrested in Thiruvananthapuram on May 20, Yousuf and Nayeem continued to be at large.
“However, we are yet to confirm if he was at the murder scene,” said a senior police official from Nalgonda. The Chaitanyapuri police probing the case is likely to get a Prisoner’s Transit Warrant to interrogate Yousuf.
